PIREP (Pilot Report):
Left Hong Kong at 8 local time. Airport is very busy but had no problem taxiing and taking off. Q was sandwiched in between two 747's. Comparisons are inevitable. Q looked like my junior high school basketball team: shorter but slower. Trip to Taiwan easy. Had plenty of fuel and a tail wind. Because of cloud cover, first thing we saw were the mountains of Taiwan. On landing were within one mile of runway before it came into sight; lots of haze/pollution. Again greeted by very friendly, capable staff at FBO. Made quick work of formalities. Will go to see sights this afternoon.
Because of length of flight and loss of time zone hour, did not have much time in Hong Kong. Took taxi to Kowloon dock side to get view of harbor and Hong Kong skyline at dusk. Very impressive. I have always thought Chicago skyline one of the best but Hong Kong a match. Of course, Hong Kong doesn't have the Cubs.
Japan tomorrow. Russia follows and then back to the US. Will stop in Alaska to compare notes with Sarah on international matters - Mike
